i'm pretending to be the mice from cinderella and am embarking on a sewing adventure!

my princess of a daughter emily jane is turning five next month and her mimi and grandaddy are surprising her with this...

(an american girl doll - elizabeth - for those of you unfamiliar with these)

and i thought "what more fun could there be to have a matching dress for emily jane?!" so here's my adventure...

trip to JoAnn's to get the material (poor marie had to suffer through the whole hour long process of finding the EXACT right stuff)

marie and wakefield have made themselves quite the partnership in TROUBLE. here are a few examples of their escapades.

marie putting "treats" (a.k.a crayons!) out for wakefield. apparently she wants him to have technicolor poo.

playing with toilet paper - this has happened in every bathroom multiple times!!! so many wasted trees....

marie feeding wakefield - perhaps he likes his food soggy and his water flavored?

so this year begins a completely new phase of my life! i am not changing diapers AT ALL - a first for me in SIX YEARS!! AND i have 2 kids in school all day! it's just me and marie hanging out doing our own thing! it's WONDERFUL!

eben is now a first grader and feels very grown up and like he's BIG STUFF :) his teacher this year is the "grandmotherly" type and loves dalmations - which makes eben super happy. he was so excited the first day of school.

emily jane is going to a full time pre-k and comes home chatting non stop about everything she's learning and everyone who is her friend and how her teachers are to awesome. :) she walked straight into her class the first day, almost as an afterthought she turned around and gave me a big hug, said "love you mom! bye!" and off she went! she LOVES school - did anyone doubt?

marie and i will start our church's mmo/preschool on sept 6 - we'll see how she does but i'm thinking she'll love it. she asks constantly all day long "where's emmyjane? where's eben?" :) i think she misses them yet at the same time is loving ruling the roost here at home.

so i've jumped on the coupon bandwagon and am really starting to "get" it! it's been a few months now since i've started and i'm just now at the point where i am saving a good bit of money with it. : D

i am SO excited about my trip this morning!! i went to publix (their sale is a GREAT one this week) and spent a WHOPPING $1.83!!! which really saved me since it's the end of the month and i'm always low on cash at the end of the month.

i bought
19 boxes of pasta
18 cans of veggies
2 bags of frozen veggies
2 bags of rice
1 bag of sugar
1 box of meds

i bought mostly what was on sale (saving $28.90 off of the retail price)
i used coupons which totaled $34.80 (mostly printed from the internet, a few from the sunday paper)

i saved $63.70! i am really starting to just love couponing!!!

my all time favorite website is SouthernSavers.com and she does ALL the work for me - coupon matchups, sale ads, deal alerts...everything.

you ALL should give couponing a try!!! it will take a few months to really get the hang of it and be able to buy only the sale items...but it is definitely worth it. :)

YAY for saving my pennies and watching them add up.

at a wedding reception this past weekend, emily jane and a friend (boy)were walking around holding hands. they wandered into the sanctuary where one of the women from the church went up to them and said that they could get married next. to this emily jane looked at her friend then replied:

i love my cbs group! today was the first day and i thoroughly enjoyed it! i have been missing and longing in a spiritual way and was completely satisfied today. wednesdays just might be my new favorite day. :)

emily jane stole for the first time today. she was really admiring something in rhett's office and i saw her put it in her pocket. i held my hand out and she handed it right over (which shows she knew she couldn't take it). i said taking something that is not yours is called stealing. god says do not steal. if you'd like to look at it for a minute you may ask daddy. she asked, he said yes. i forget all bout it. later in the car in the backseat i over hear her say to marie "sshh. don't tell mommy." i turn around and what does she have in her hand? the thing she was told not to take!!! UTURN in the middle of the road - marched right back into daddy's office - with her still holding what she had stolen. big talk...big trouble...big tears. *sigh* i was shown the sinfulness of my children yet again today. we had another talk on the way home for the 2nd time about how we aren't to steal because god says not to. if we want something we have to earn it and pay for it. if we take something that isn't ours then when they need it they don't have it and they have to use their money to go buy another one. i told her if she was a big helper around the house she could save up her allowance money and go buy her very own. which perked her up. and which is why it is now time to get off my blog because she is standing right here staring at me waiting for me to give her some chores to do. :D yay for mommy's big helper.

rhett and i have had quite a ... um ... interesting fall. and we really needed a vacation. our dearest friends and family knew this and we were surprised with a WONDERFUL early christmas present of a cruise! yes - a CRUISE to the bahamas. :D so my parents graciously watched our kiddos for us and we headed out of town!

it was the most relaxing vacation i've ever taken. just rhett and me and a boat full of strangers and loads and loads and loads of all you can eat food. :D

the sunset our first night on the boat. we were still at port in florida because they were having "technical issues that their technicians were technically fixing" which they eventually did. :)

this was taken at the front of the boat the second morning - it was SO windy!! can you tell HAHA

we spent the second day in nassau, bahamas. :) this is the welcome center to the city.

we took a water taxi to paradise island (where people like oprah, nicolas cage, etc. own houses) to the Atlantis Resort. it was AMAZING!

that bridge in between the two buildings is one suite - which was built for michael jackson but he sold it back to the owner of the resort. it goes for $25,000 per night (according to the water taxi tour guide) with a minimum stay of 4 nights. and it's booked solid for the next 5 years. so go ahead and book it now he said cuz you'll have time to save up for it! haha :D

this was one of the water slides on the resort - it shot you into a tube that went through the pool at the bottom that you see - and inside that pool are SHARKS! crazy huh?

see the tubes going through the shark tank? i was so impressed - if only i had a room key so i could've tried it out...HA

we took a towel folding class to learn how they make all those towel animals. :D and we enjoyed ourselves too!!

we played puttputt - well, tried to play putt putt. the course was at the front of the ship - remember my front of the ship picture? we'ld put our ball down and the wind would roll it away before we could hit it. it was really funny. and i ended up losing - but only by 1!! not too bad with the crazy wind.

we also watch a man carve this ice sculpture in 15 minutes - it was awesome!

we also went to a few comedy shows - they were hysterical!

we also played lots of bingo (old fuddy duddy 30 year olds again i know) and lost every time, ate lots and lots and lots of delicious food. took naps every day. enjoyed um parts of the shows...some were a little too las vegas if you know what i mean. and had the best time ever. yay for early christmas presents!!

our last night on the boat.
getting ready to drive back home. we don't look too thrilled do we - HA.

arriving home and seeing our kiddos. i just love them to pieces! aren't they precious? i did miss them while we were away - probably not quite as much as i should have but hey, i was on a cruise with my husband!! what can i say? ;D
they're wearing the tshirts we got them on the cruise - when the sun hits eben's and emily jane's - they turn colors. its pretty cool! :)

we have a WONDERFUL new home. :) i am absolutely in love with it. it is placed in the most absolute perfect neighborhood! we couldn't be happier with the house we chose.

see the group of people at the top of the stairs? they're all waiting to move furniture into the master bedroom. what are the waiting for? well i think someone got the loveseat stuck in the doorframe. :D supermom eventually went to the rescue and got it through - rhett says we're taking that loveseat out in pieces. i have been contemplating and toying with the idea of moving marie to a big girl bed lately. mostly when i walked in and found her like spiderman up against the wall standing on the crib railing and calling "mooooooooommmmaaaaaaaaa!"!!! that girl is FULL of personality and surprises!

so tonight i made the deicision it was time. no more trying it out - we are doing it! so after a rough afternoon nap, she's peacefully asleep tonight in her big girl castle bed in the room with emily jane's castle bed. :)

now i had planned on sleeping the girls in the same room so eben could have his own BOY room. boy toys - boy decorations - boy everything. he seemed so excited about the idea! so i moved his bed in there and his castle with his men...

then he asks "can emily jane sleep in here with me?"

i said "i thought you wanted to have a boy room? and the girls would have a girls room?"

he said WORD FOR WORD "are you kidding me? she is the bestest sister in the whole wide world! this can be a boy and girl room!"

MELTS MY HEART :D

so i took one side of the crib rail off and let emily jane put her princess sheets on there. and they're happily settled in for the night. not quite asleep but almost. :)

we'll see how long it lasts. haha

for my dad's birthday we went to texas roadhouse...when its your birthday, they roll out this saddle, make the birthday boy sit on it, announce how old they are, then make the whole restaurant say "yee-haw!" kinda funny. :)

eben turned five a few weeks ago. i'm having a little bit of a nervous breakdown over that! he's going to kindergarten in the fall. MY little baby boy is going to school - real school - not just preschool or MMO. he is a big whopping FIVE years old! where does the time go?

first we celebrated with mimi and grandaddy...

they bought him this huge monstrosity of a castle that he absolutely adores! he was so excited to see this huge box all wrapped up and couldn't wait to tear it open!

then grandma and grandpa let him open part of their present - 2 knights and horses to go in his castle!

secondly we celebrated with friends...

for his 5 year party he wanted to have a star wars party at chuck e cheese. go figure. so we bought minimal star wars decorations, i labored over a princess leia/chewbacca/storm trooper/yoda cake, we sent out invites, and had a marvelous time!

TOO FUNNY!

our kids just love snow! probably more so because we don't see it everyday or even every winter! but we have had a lot of fun in the 3-4 inches we have gotten this winter. :)

this year there was enough for us to go "sledding"! well - a southern version of sledding anyway. :)

marie wasn't too big of a fan of the snow - she liked licking the snow from her gloves - until her fingers got wet and cold. she did sled a few times. but not a huge fan. she's just not big enough yet i suppose.

eben however LOVED it - everything about it! he would still be out there now if we would let him. :) we'll have to take him up north one of these winters to let him see a true snowstorm, have a true sledding experience, and build a true snowfort for a true snowball fight. :)

so today we had a field trip to the pumpkin patch. it was quite fun! perfect weather for it! slightly overcast, wonderful 60 degrees, slight breeze. just perfect. we walked the corn maze, took a hay ride, played in their play area including a huge slide, a bouncy house, a playground, a chicken feed silo, a hay bale maze, a petting zoo, and so forth! the kids had a blast. and i came home and took a nap! HA!

our vacation was a wonderful week of perfect weather and blissful relaxation! i want to go back today!!!! the kids loved the beach - the sand, the water, the animals, everything! rhett and i loved watching them play and enjoying it with them.

some highlights:

marie sticking her finger into and tasting the sand. over and over again.

the first time emily jane saw the beach and the sand: "mommy! look at all this...this...snow!!! it's everywhere!! there's so much snow!"

eben: "momma!! i just petted a glass fish! it came right up to me! it wasn't fake or dead - it swam right up to me and i touched it and it swam away! a real glass fish!"

my beautiful emily jane is now three - we've had quite a few parties and still one more to come! she's quite the three year old - chatting on and on about everything and nothing! she has a shorter big girl hair cut (which i'm not quite sure how i feel about it!) and is turning into such a big helper. i just love my 3 year old daughter!

our first day of school!

so in order to pay for my new car...i am teaching preschool this year...the 3 year class 4 days a week. i tried to teach kindergarten on tuesday and i'm SO not teaching kindergartners! but wednesday went MUCH better. my class is wonderful and it should be a fun year!

its s 2009 mazda mazda5...the color is galaxy gray...has seating for 6...power everything (except seats and doors)...even has climate control...gets over 27 mpg...and I LOVE IT! i've never had a new car before, so its quite exciting!! hooray for me!!! we're going to take it on a road in october down to my grandpa's house for our real family vacation...i'm excited!

so for our mini end of summer vacation, we took the kids to the zoo (which i forgot my camera in the car OOPS!) and then took ourselves to the nascar race in atlanta! it was SO much fun...we just might make that an annual thing. :) it was louder than i thought - hence the nice ear muffs in our pictures, and the people who attend races (which i guess now includes us?) our quite...um...colorful?? heh...part of the fun was watching those die hard race fans consume their beverages. ;)

so we took our family on our first camping trip - and i loved it! we had so much fun. but i don't think i'm going again in august - it was SO incredibly HOT! i don't think i've ever been so sweaty for so long. but here's a few pictures - i'll put more up later. :)

it is the end of july - the kids here start school in 2 weeks (although preschool doesn't start til after labor day). summer has flown by so fast - and has been such a blast! haha i am starting to wish for and look forward to the beginning of school and a normal weekly and daily routine. living out of a suitcase does get a bit old. and so does saying goodbye to my bed! but alas - two more trips...maybe a third...and summer will truly be over!

marie's first really big owie - a big fat busted lip. she was driving one of those little ride on cars, hit a bump, and the thing fell forward - and of course she held on to the steering wheel handle thing instead of catching herself. but she's a tropper - was smiling within 30 minutes. :)

the beginnings of her "i'm a big girl!" stage. she simply has to do everything her big brother and sister do - including climbing into and sitting in big chairs all by herself. her personality is definitely starting to shine through.

can't you just hear her thoughts? "see me mommy!!! i'm sitting in this big kid chair!!! and i did it all by myself!!!"

rhett and i took along our son, eben, on the youth summer mission trip to the appalachian mountains. he LOVED it! he met "his best girl" Ily, who was a sweet, precious, little thing. :)

while on a walk, eben picked a flower and used it as a lightsaber with his cousin, carson. Obviously the flower didn't hold up to well and all the petals fell off, so eben decided he didn't need it any more and threw it into the lake. his other cousin, reid (who treasured her flower on the walk and kept it intact), asked him what happened to his flower and he said, "it wasn't a flower anymore. just a flower handle so i threw it into the water." HA a flower handle - pretty accurate. :)

we had marie's one year check up finally

she was right around 50th percentile for height - 30 inches, 15th percentile for weight - 18 1/2 pounds, and her head was in the 80th percentile - 18 inches. :)

she's making progress but is still a long lean little girl.

she's not walking on her own yet - she'll take steps in between things and will walk from me to rhett and such and she LOVES her walker - she could win a nascar race in that thing. :) very soon i do believe we will see her walking all on her own.

potty training FOR REAL

so emily jane has been potty training in spurts - some weeks she did great some weeks she did horrible. BUT this week i think is the real thing :) she wants to go, tells me when she has to go, and hasn't had but 1 accident :) HOORAY

and yesterday i even let her wear big girl panties out of the house...to monkey joes! and she did great!!! no accidents whatsoever.

and then there was only one left in diapers

for those of you just hearing about our jonas - he's our dog - he's been having coughing fits for quite a while now. and after some extensive and expensive tests and a scary report - we now have a diagnosis. :)

He has a condition called endocardiosis - a very common heart disease in small breeds. Endocardiosis basically means that the valves in his heart are twisted and knotted, preventing his blood from flowing as it should - causing the blood to back up into his lungs and into his heart, enlarging it. In humans, valve replacement surgery for this is very common, but our Jonas is a dog whether he wants to believe that or not. :) We caught his condition pretty early on so with medicine, jonas should have quite a few more years with us. He has responded really well to the medicine the vet put him on initially so we are continuing with those: the antibiotic for the slight pneumonia, the diruetic to help his blood flow more easily, and adding another - the ACE Inhibitor to help the heart pump the blood.

even though his heart is unfixable - it is treatable - and for that we are so grateful. we are not ready to be a family without our jonas.

this morning i woke up to find emily jane in the bathroom covered in soap. she even had it in her mouth?! at least it was soap and it was in the bathroom.

i also forgot about the first incident of the week. last weekend when i had the flu, rhett was on his way home from church but i couldn't stay out of bed any longer so i hit the pillow before he got home. and he found emily jane coloring on the sofa with a pen. it's still there. all over the arm of the sofa.

ah well...life with a 2 year old...huh?

how much disaster can a 2 year old accomplish in one week?

soooooooooooo...emily jane.......

beginning of the week, went to get her up, found her completely naked standing in a puddle.

then yesterday, went to get her up and found her playing in the jar of vaseline that was on top of her dresser. it was all over every inch of her, all over the floor, all over her bed, all over her door, her toys. you name it. slimy. it's still in her hair - 6 shampoos later. and taking a shower in our bathroom is really a lot more like ice skating.

this is her hair hours after 5 shampoos. still looks wet even though it's completely dry - and her skin even today still feels slimy. she won't need lotion for at least 5 years. :)

and then this morning. went to get her up and opened the door to the lovely smell of poo. all over her, all over the floor. and she drove her shopping cart through it and ground it into the carpet.

so...tips of getting pee and vaseline and poo out of carpet? i think we're renting a steam cleaner this week.

the vaseline stains are at the top left of the picture. the poo stains are all the spots in the middle and bottom. sigh. :) at least i'm chuckling and taking pictures right?

while staying at my mom's house for the weekend, eben was playing with chris (my sister michelle's fiance). he was looking for a specific toy that he couldn't find and chris said that if he cleaned up then he might find it. he left the room for a minute and when he came back, this is what eben said to him.

"CHRIS! i thought i told you to clean this up!"

HAHAHA can't imagine where he's heard that before.

we had to take eben to the cardiologist this week to check out his heart murmur (which is perfectly fine - a small hole that will heal up on its own - but anyway) and at the office they had a fish tank. eben goes up to it and says

"i see 1...2...3 fish swimming. and 1 dead fish. ooo and another fish is hiding."

me: "dead? are you sure? maybe its sleeping"

eben: "nope, its dead. hey daddy, will you read me this book please?"

such a sensitive little man. HA. the fish really was dead.

emily jane's new thing is to say she loves things. but she pronounces love as lob :) it's pretty cute.

i hung up decorations for marie's birthday party and she came in and said
"oooo wow! mommy, i lob those. what are those?" HA

we had mcdonalds a few times this week (oops) and she said every time
"mommy i lob chicken nuggets" HA

and when i picked her up from grandma's house
"that's my mommy!!! i lob my mommy."

emily jane also caught a cold this week so she's been coming up to me and saying

"mommy, my needs a tissue. my got yuky buggers." hee hee not boogers - buggers. :)

on thursday, eben had to have his 4 year shots. when i told him where we were going on wednesday night, he said,

this morning at bonclarken, my parents came over to the house we were staying at to help me get the kids to breakfast, when emily jane saw them she opened the door and said:

she is too precious! :)

marie is now in copy cat mode - there are two things that she does that crack me up. if you growl at her, she growls back. every time! and if you sing and "bobble" your head, she'll sing and bobble her head right back. it is too funny. i'll try to get it on video and post it - it's too cute not to share. :)

Eben: Mommy, I can't eat anymore. (remember, this is how he woke me up - he hadn't eaten anything yet)

mommy: you can't?

eben: no, cuz it makes the bugs in my legs itch.

me: what?!

eben: yeah, i can't eat anymore cuz my tummy will be all full and my legs will itch cuz of the bugs. right?

me: eben, i have no idea what you're talking about.

then he laughed and said he wanted a doughnut. i still have no idea!!!
